first half certainly felt like Rice and Lanzini had it most in the middle. As i said they only threatened with the diag out to Ayew. Rice run the show ....again

3-0 up at HT sort of confirms it

Dominated the ball?

How pissed were you, Palace had over 60% the commentary kept saying how they were dominating possession.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
Still buzzing off of yesterday, Palace away for me is defo one of the best away days....been there 4 times now and 3 wins and a draw.

Surprised with how some are describing the performance yesterday, the first half felt like we dominated the ball....Palace only really looked dangerous when hitting that long diag to Ayew...Johnson was too narrow most of the time. But thought Rice and Lanzini were superb in the middle and Coufal was much better going forward. We rode our luck a bit, but we've earned some luck after the last month or so of constant VAR shit decisions. We were ruthless going forward too which was nice to see, Lanzini's first is an absolute gem.

2nd half we was good again, Palace rarely threatened and if Diop doesnt duck the cross we probably come away with a 3-0 win. Agree with Olise looking very good, wanted us to sign him in the summer a attacking trio of him Eze and Zaha will be very dangerous. We're only the 2nd team to win there this season so its a great result and 2 great away wins after the Soton shambles. Onto Leeds and Norwich now.....our home games remaining this season look very very winnable. Add a few this month and lets go for top 4!!

Final note...... 7 goals scored with Fornals out the team, he has to stay out the side.....or be converted into a Soucek type CM just isnt on the same level and Benny and Lanzini going forward lately

Warchild,

Well, he was certainly torn a new one in those championships.

I was only about 10 at the time - but certainly remember his reputation taking a bit of a hit.

Why was he called donkey then? Was he hung like one?

That's not why Tony Adams was known as a donkey at all.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
I think the problem is this. Dawson defends very well facing the threat but needs someone next to him who defends the threat behind as Dawson just doesn't have that pace. Diop is young and isn't consistent and you put Arthur next to him who just can't defend full stop then Diop is going to struggle trying to cover both Dawson and Arthur. Even Zouma looked like a fish out of water on the left. Oggy is clearly the big miss on that left hand side as I suspect either Dawson or Diop would be fine on the right next to him.

I’m not commenting on Arthur, Diop or Dawson as it’s all been said before and there have been plenty of games where I have seen us be the better team and lose or draw.

I’m just enjoying the fact that we are scoring goals and winning games. If we are not playing well then so much the better. Long may it last.

Anyone remember Tony Adams being an absolute donkey in European Champs 1988? Hence the reason he was known as "donkey Adams'.

He didn't do too bad, in the end.

Eerie,

They have both been savaged, let's have it right. I, like you, think that the criticism has been well over the top for Dawson.
People are too quick to jump on the few mistakes he's made.

And anyway, why make it about Dawson v Diop, they play for the same team. All we want ultimately, is for the team to do well.

The reason I personally cut Diop slack, is because we signed him as a very young defender,. Defenders are notorious for taking a while to mature compared to forwards. He's had some very good games and he's had some very bad ones, but he's shown when played on his right side he can be very good in the Premier League. - he seems to play well in European football (where ball is on the ground more) and he's certainly good enough to be our 3/4 CB.

Diop has done all his growing up, playing top level football in France and here. Dawson and another example Tarkowski had played only a few games in the Premier League top level, by the time they were 24. Diop therefore, has had it harder having to come up against the creme de la creme of strikers weeek in, week out.

I'll say it again, because it has to pointed out - why isn't Dawson played on his wrongside, seeing as he is the more experienced, steady Premier League performer at this moment in time.

It would benefit Diop more, being next to Coufal. And, it would benefit Johnson ( when playing LB) and Masuaku ( although, defensively, Masuaku is a bit of a lost cause). Dawson would be talking with Johnson/Masuaku helping them more. Likewise, Coufal can be talking to Diop, more.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
It's as if some have forgotten that 3 of the back 4 are playing because of injury to the starters in that position. Dawson, Masuaku and Diop are not as good a defensive unit as Ogbonna, Zouma and Cresswell, it's ridiculous that that needs pointing out on a West Ham site. Perhaps some need to stick to posting about their favourite crisp flavour.

Re: ⚽ Crystal Palace v West Ham - Official Match Thread FT 2-3
Dawson has great defensive abilty, how many times does he save us with a tackle or timely interception. But he also makes quite a few howlers, own goals, penalties, dangerous free kicks given away and a stupid red card. He is much much better better than the backup defender I thought we had bought, but he has his limitations.
Diop is similarly inconsistent, but usually gets better with more games under his belt. I don't see him that bad for clearing headers, but at times he does dive in late to tackles with those long legs.

Olise looked really good yesterday and you have to wonder why he doesn’t get more game time.

Without going all stats crazy, he’s got 2 goals and 3 assists from a total of 311 minutes playing time this season. The other goal was against Leicester and the other assists were against Arsenal and Man City. He literally comes on and has an impact.

We were fortunate that Palace didn’t have Gallagher and Zaha yesterday, but we were owed a bit of luck against them.

We were lucky yesterday, but those cunts always seem to get the luck when playing us, so fuck them.. We still are playing with a second string back line, and can't seem to play our way out from the back, but are able to score goals (7 in the last two games), and are still in contention for 4th spot.

Good post Kaiser . Your comment re fudging this window is a good one . I think it’s almost inevitable that we will .
You can see Rice loves West Ham , one of the most enthusiastic to celebrate when we score .
He is the one player of consistent quality we have and is entitled to be ambitious.
Sadly I believe those ambitions will have to met elsewhere.
Shame as this is a once in a generation opportunity for West Ham to really kick on .

Dawson has been absolutely savaged on this website at times, he was when we bought him, and if he makes a mistake that leads to a goal there's an absolute meltdown towards him. Yet, for the most part, he has been outstanding for us, and at £2mil has got to be one of our best VFM signings.

On the flip side, Diop has had a ridiculously easy ride in comparison, and is the perennial 'has the potential to be' player. He's 25 in a few days, and still has the exact defensive deficiencies as when we first signed him. The Mourinho comments have definitely biased views towards him, as has his transfer fee. We need to get shot asap if we can.

For someone 6ft 5 it’s strange Diop never wins a header!
Diop has this habit of flying into tackles ; like the spurs first goal last week and the crazy foul last night.
He isn’t clever enough.

Need to get rid whilst he has some value.

It’s the combination of the two players being headless chickens when alongside each other and the opposition having a player that goes for the jugular on this factor……Arthur is the one that cannot be playing as he even made Oggy struggle at times…..
